A request, plea or supplication

Dear anonymous commenters: I value your contributions. Actually, I really do, even when I don't agree with you, which today has been often (and sorry for my lack of engagement, I've got three bastard article deadlines).

However: when you comment, can you please differentiate yourselves? Ie put 'anonymous 28' or 'anonymousROFLMAO' - or differentiate yourself in the body of the comment - so that we can all tell you apart? The threads are getting really hard to follow! Thank you kindly.

I promise that the wordpress move will happen just as soon as I get my tiny arse in gear. Mwah. x

  2. Penny - out of interest, why Wordpress? I have a Wordpress blog because I didn't get on with Blogger. What is your reason for the move?

  3. It's easy to spot me. I'm a prickly tropical fruit with an interest in Southeast Asian politics from the mid-late 20th century!

    @ SteveShark

She wants more editorial control over the content of her blog and thinks Wordpress will be better in this respect than Blogger.

    And why not?

Censoring the internet works for the Chinese!

  7. Can I make a personal request that the "Ian" nonsense be discontinued, ladies and gentlemen? The modest exercise of normal decorum should be reintroduced on the Penny Red blog as soon as possible in my opinion. A laugh is one thing but braying hysteria is another and uncalled for. Thank you for your time, attention and I hope future cooperation.

  10. "Censoring the internet works for the Chinese!"

It's hardly about censorship, just getting rid of the dumbass anonymous comments that bring absolutely nothing to the discussion.

Get her, the swish bitch! I could scratch your eyes out you uppity mare! Who are you to decide which comments are "dumbass" or not? In a free country it is every person's democrat right to exercise free speech, dumbass or not. Who the hell do you think you are? Wen Jiabao? We haven't forgotten Tienanmen Square!

    Free speech for all!

    And free Tibet!

I made a perfectly legitimate request, based on Penny's legitimate request...

I did find this funny though:
"It's hardly about censorship, just getting rid of the dumbass anonymous comments that bring absolutely nothing to the discussion" Said anonymous... :)

And the great thing about blogging is, if someone refuses to post your comment, you're free to start your own blog and post it there with a link back to the original. Brilliant, innit?

  18. From redpesto - Penny, have you seen/read Purnell's latest welfare wheeze to withdraw benefits from alcoholics who won't get clean and sober? (I'm assuming the same threat to obese people is being held over for the manifesto)

  19. Ian the Junkie, Toper and Priapist15 April 2009 at 15:13

If Purnell makes my Jobseeker's Allowance conditional on me kicking the habit, something I've tried to do countless times and failed, I'll be forced to drop out of the system altogether and earn my living by dealing skag and blow on the street. Or perhaps if I can touch the hem of Purnell's robe I will be cured by a miracle... the camp little twat seems to consider himself the Son of God! Put him to the test I say! Let's nail the duplicitous little shit to a cross and see if he can come back from the dead! That's about as plausible a happening as "curing" alcoholism and drug addiction by threating withdrawal of social security benefits.

  20. SteveShark: based on some of the technical conversations Penny and I had when I was setting up JQP, it's to do with a number of things, including more sensible tagging and category arrangements, more flexible code, and threaded comments. Also an effective spam comment blocker (Akismet), which Blogger did not have last time I looked.

Also, importing of all articles and comments from the existing blog is made surprisingly easy.

  21. @John Q. Publican

Yeah, pretty much why I switched from Blogger to Wordpress.
The spam blocker is excellent - only one false negative so far.
FWIW my advice would be to try out a few templates if you're going with that option - what seem to be OK sometimes turn out to have limitations later on.
The standard 'package' is surprisingly adaptable for its zero cost.
